Recommended in the Lonely Planet & National Geographic Adventure

After growing the tour agency for several years, exploring new routes in the mountains and sharing these off-the-beaten track and trails with backpackers from around the world, we were listed in the Lonely Planet’s South America on a Shoestring. Less than a year later, we were recommended in National Geographic Adventure’s Bucket List for the Condor Trek — a world famous hike that takes you from Antisana Reserve in the north of the country towards the Cotopaxi National Park in Ecuador’s center.

Its great being recommended by such reputable organization’s such as the Lonely Planet and National Geographic Adventure — but the real reward comes from being able to share Ecuador’s beautiful nature with people from around the world.

Its worth noting: our address has changed since we were listed in the Lonely Planet. We are no longer located on Avenida Borge y Uruguay and instead operate from the Riobamba Guesthouse on the Cuidadela Politécnica a 15 minute walk from Riobamba’s train station and colonial center. Come join us in our guesthouse for a cabezazo – sugarcane alcohol – and a few beers and good music before a trip into the mountains.

Trekking in Ecuador

Altar Open Tour

Dec 13th

$250 per person

El Altar trek in Ecuador is an exploded volcano with 9 jagged peaks that reach up to the sky like a claw. This 3 day trek takes you to the multicoloured lagoons and waterfalls around the glaciated peaks of El Altar.

Overnight treks to El Altars crater lake are popular but because our specialty is off the beaten track trekking we decided to focus on the much more remote and beautiful southern region of El Altar that the early explorers called “el Mundo Perdido” or the Lost World.

YASUNI TOURS

This Yasuni Rainforest Tour will take you to a remote region on the Shiripuno River of the Yasuni Amazon, one of the most untouched and pristine regions of South Americas Amazon rainforest.

The lodge sits within the United Nations protected Yasuni Biosphere Reserve, which has the highest concentration of floral and faunal species anywhere in the world.

The biodiversity in this reserve is unique due to the geographic and warm climate conditions during the Pleistocene era which made Yasuní became a hotspot of biodiversity and animal migration, greatly contributed to the propagation of the rest of the Amazon Basin, and is one of the few places on the planet distinguished as a Pleistocene Refuge Area — an area in which numerous species survived extinction during periods of dramatic climate change.

Open Tour Trekking Ecuador

This comming 21st we are taking a group up to the lost pyramid of puñay for a special price of $85 per person

The Lost Pyramid of Puñay was discovered in 2003 on the peak of a 3300m (10,826 feet) mountain in the Ecuadorian Andes. The temple is 450m (1,476 feet) long and 40m (131 feet) tall and constructed in the shape of the sacred Guacamaya or Macaw.

The archeological site has been carbon dated to 2,400BC making it the oldest and largest temple of its kind in the Americas.

The Lost Pyramid of Puñay is a two day camping trip where we take travelers from Riobamba to the ancient temple ruin and camp on the peak of the mountain. Because the pyramid was rediscovered only very recently and is not yet listed in any guidebook we normally have the archeological site all to ourselves to explore.

Ecuador Transit of Venus on 5th of June

On the 5th of June we are organizing a very special trip to the ancient Astrological Observatory Puñay for the Transit of Venus. Puñay is a pyramid constructed on the peak of a 3300meter mountain 2,400 years BC to worship the moon, stars, and sun.

The Transit of Venus will not happen again in our lifetimes, that is unless you plan to live until December 2117. As you can see from the map below the only countries in South Ameica to see the Transit of Venus will be Colombia, Ecuador, and Northern Peru. The Observatorio Astronómico de Quito has said the Transit will start at 17:06 right before sunset on the 5th.

Puñay has without doubt some of the most beautiful sunsets on the planet because of its location above the clouds. If we are lucky and the weather means a clear horizon we will be in for a really special afternoon for one of the worlds most incredible astrological events.
